Owned and cared for by Reading Borough Council. The Friends assist the council to achieve its objectives for Caversham Court as a historic garden and to raise awareness of its history and importance.
The gardens are open every day except Christmas Day from 8 a.m. to dusk. Entry is free.
The charity run Tea Kiosk is open for the season. It is open Wednesday to Sunday each week (11.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.), weather permitting.
HERITAGE OPEN DAY (Saturday 13 September, 11.00 to 13.00 & 14.00 to 16.00)
LOOK, DRAW, BUILD.
The Friends will be in partnership with ARCHI-adventure (www.archi-adventure.com) to run drop-in workshops for families.
This workshop invites participants to explore the historic gardens through architecture, observation and creativity.
No need to book, suitable for children of 5+, but all welcome. Expect to spend 15-20 minute on each of three interactive activities: LOOK, DRAW, BUILD.
Discover hidden shapes, patterns & architectural elements in the gardens using viewfinders.
Choose your favourite view, frame and sketch it then using a set of magical cards and prompts build imaginative structures inspired by what you have seen and drawn.
Sessions will take place in the open garden, starting at the vinery (steps only to the vinery, no ramp). Volunteers will look after bikes/buggies near the entrance to the gardens.
